The Pathanapuram Block Panchayat encompasses an area within the Pathanapuram Taluk of Kollam district, situated in the lap of the Western Ghats along the banks of the Kallada River, and comprises the Grama Panchayats of Thalavoor, Pattazhi, Pattazhi Vadakkekara, Piravanthoor, Vilakkudi, and Pathanapuram; this region falls under the Mavelikara Lok Sabha constituency.This is an agricultural region where crops such as ginger, tapioca, black pepper, cashew, paddy, and rubber are cultivated. The Kallada and Achankovil rivers flow through this block. The area features lush green landscapes and beautiful tourist spots, including the Achankovil forest region, which falls under the Konni and Punalur divisions. The Punalur-Pathanamthitta-Muvattupuzha State Highway (SH-8) connects Pathanapuram to other regions.Offices functioning under the Block Panchayat include the Pathanapuram Taluk Hospital, the Office of the Assistant Director of Agriculture, the Industries Department Office, the Dairy Development Office, the ICDS Project Office, the Scheduled Castes Development Office, and the Office of the Assistant Executive Engineer. Approximately 660 individuals belonging to 220 Scheduled Tribe families—from the Hindu-Kanikkar, Malavedar, Malapandaram, and Ulladan communities—reside within the block limits across the Vellamthetti, Punnala, Karavoor, Mankode, Mullumala, and Kalleri colonies
